Big Bay Rustics

I've been a carpenter my entire adult life. Since 1984 I have run and operated "hands on" a small contracting business doing most any project from replacing a door to building entire homes but the majority has been renovations. With the renovating one learns many tricks of the trade. About 6 years ago at the age of 49 I realized I will need to work until my body won't allow me to. That is when I began to diversify and took my photography to the next level.

The business of photography is rewarding personally but as most of us know there are just a select few that can earn a good upper 5 figure income at it and although I do okay with it I know it'll continue to grow.  A few months ago I looked at an unframed 18x24 print... a wonderful shot of my Golden Retriever "Chase"... and decided to frame it with some old cedar board I had laying around. That led to another and yet another. I'm fortunate in that our house is built into a hill over looking the Hudson River. The back of the house has the garage underneath what is a Chalet type home. This has given me a great area to open up shop.

The photo above is one of my prints in a frame made out of some live edge pine. It's hanging on a wall in Ed Davis Auto of Fair Haven Vt. Ed loves this sorta thing and I gave it to him as a wedding gift. Well it generates a lot of interest hanging in his show room and they have invited me to put up a display with my work for sale with some %'s going to them. There is also another store a little closer to home that is buying and selling my frames with and without my prints.

No two frames are identical. Using nothing but rustic wood where I can find it or buy it. Some barn board, some cedar, some hardwoods. I've gotten very creative with the frames now by using multiple types of wood on one frame. Creating a shadow box effect and/or just all very unique rustic frames. I'm very busy doing now mostly just this with some projects outside the shop as well as my photography. The name of the business is..."Big Bay Rustic's"... because our house sits on Big Bay and it sounds nice.

If you're interested in a frame let me know. I will need the size of the print you want framed and you can include a preference of wood and I'll give you a price. The design process is off the hip so to speak but you will not be disappointed. I will ship anywhere.

Happy New Year
